The Caloocan City Government honored the outstanding frontliners in relation to the celebration of the first Frontliners’ Day in the city on March 15, 2021.
Mayor Oscar ‘Oca” Malapitan and the author of Frontliners’ Day, Councilor Vince Hernandez, led the awarding of the city’s outstanding frontliners. City Administrator Oliver Hernandez and Councilor LA Asistio were also present during the awarding.
Along with the outstanding frontliners awarded were Dra. Evelyn Cuevas, City Health Officer; Roberto Quizon, Action Officer of the City Social Welfare and Management Department; Police Captain Reynaldo Salazar of the Caloocan Police; Ruby Sugue, ER Head Nurse of Caloocan City Medical Center; Fernando Daya, Barangay Health Worker; Marlon Sulit, Emergency Response Personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office; Genevieve Lyn Pineda, Community Relations Office Staff assigned in the distribution of relief assistance; Gerard Guiller Santos, MedTech assigned in swab testing; Emily Slater, Tourism Operations Officer assigned in the coordination of Locally Stranded Individuals; Kap. Ronaldo Matias of Barangay 175; SK Chairman Joselito Santiago of Barangay 176; Elery Villadores, General Services Department staff assigned in the delivery of relief goods; Rolando Salcedo, garbage collector from the City Environment and Management Department; at Edwin Gutierrez ng Department of Public Safety and Traffic Management personnel assigned in the disinfection. Some of them became positive with the Covid-19 virus because of their exposure during the conduct of their service. Aside from them, Mayor Oca also acknowledged through the Posthumous Award are the deceased staff due to Covid-19. They are Fidel Pascua Jr. of the Caloocan City Medical Center and Teddie Balasi of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The Aksyon and Malasakit Providers were also awarded for their advocacy and support for the City Government amid the pandemic. These include the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc., Caloocan City Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Caloocan City Fire Prevention Association Inc., Donnabel Trias Cunanan, DMD, of Barangay 173, and Tommy Rico, Public Schools District Supervisor.
In his remarks, Oca expressed his gratitude for all the city’s valiant frontliners who continued to sacrifice and serve in today’s pandemic situation.
“One year from today our dear President Duterte first declared the community quarantine across the country. A year of selfless care and serving by our heroes against the pandemic,” the Mayor declared.
In this regard, Oca encouraged citizens to help our frontliners fight against Covid-19 by following minimum health protocols.
“Now that cases of Covid-19 is increasing, let’s show our concern and gratitude to our frontliners by simply wearing face masks and face shield and being compliant with social distancing. It’s a big thing for them,” he said. “They can’t win the fight on their own. They need the help from each of us,” the mayor said.
