The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said 74 volcanic earthquakes were recorded at Taal Volcano over the past 24 hours on Sunday.

Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 2 (increased unrest), which means sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ash fall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas can occur and threaten areas within the Taal Volcano Island, which has been declared a permanent danger zone.

Of the total 74 volcanic earthquakes, 46 tremors lasted from one to four minutes.

Phivolcs said at the main crater, weak steam-laden plumes rose 10 meters high.

Phivolcs urged local governments to ensure adequate preparations are in place should the volcano show more renewed unrest.

It also said pilots must avoid flying close to Taal Volcano as ash and ballistic fragments from sudden explosions may be hazardous to aircrafts.
