2nd lowest passing rate for Shari’ah court Bar exams

The Supreme Court on Wednesday announced that only 71 or 10.86 percent of the 654 examinees hurdled the 2020 special bar examinations for the Shari’ah courts.

Court of Appeals Associate Justice Japar Dimaampao, chairperson of the committee on the Shari’ah Bar Examinations, said the results “will go down in history as the second lowest passing percentage.”

Court records showed the lowest passing rate was logged in 1983, with only 14 examinees who passed or 7.69 percent of those who took the examinations.

The SC said the 10 examinees who topped the Shari’ah Bar Exams are as follows: Mohammad Hisham Mocsir, 87.075 percent; Ramayana Saidamen, 86.975 percent; Mohammad Mojib Marangit, 85.075 percent; Julamin Paglala, 84.625 percent; Ainah Pumbaya, 83.525 percent; Sittie Ainah Ali, 83.200 percent; Nasihah Mamarungas, 82.075 percent; Johari Abubacar, 82.025 percent; Raima Panandigan, 81.100 percent; and Nornisah Taha, 80.950 percent.

The 2020 examiners were lawyer Melchor Rey Sadain (Persons, Family Relations and Property), Dr. Asnawil Ronsing (Jurisprudence [Fiqh] and Customary Laws [Adat]); Dean Norhabib Bin Suod Barodi (Procedure in Shari’ah Courts), and Dr. Jamel Cayamodin (Succession, Wills/Adjudication and Settlement of Estate).

The examinations were held on Jan. 19 and 26 last year at the Court of Appeals building on Maria Orosa Street in Ermita, Manila.
