MMDA opens 2 EDSA U-turn slots

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has decided to reopen the two U-turn slots it earlier closed along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue in Quezon City.

The MMDA granted the request of the local government to reopen the U-turn slots in front of the Quezon City Academy and the one near Dario Bridge to ease traffic in these areas.

But MMDA spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Pircelyn Pialago clarified that the Quezon City Academy U-turn slot was opened for light vehicles only while the one near Darrio Bridge is for emergency vehicles.

The agency came up with the decision a week after it announced the cancellation of the closure of Edsa-Bagong Barrio U-turn slot, also due to the clamor of the Caloocan City government, saying the move will cause heavy traffic in the area, especially this peak Christmas season when the number of vehicles is expected to increase.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte earlier wrote a letter requesting the MMDA, Department of Transportation, and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board for the reopening of the two U-turn slots to decongest traffic there.

“Closure of the U-turn slots will be done gradually. Traffic advisories will be installed within the affected areas to inform the motorists and the commuting public of any change,” said MMDA chairman Danilo Lim.
