The Bureau of Customs has destroyed P374 Million worth of seized smuggled cigarettes in Cebu City.

Port of Cebu Deputy Collector for Operations Marc Anthony Patriarca said the shipments were in eight container vans from China.

Customs Auction and Cargo Disposal Unit Chief Ronald Morillo supervised the destruction at the destruction facility of Pinoy Basurero Corporation/Arn Central Waste Management Inc. in Barangay Binaliw, Talamban, Cebu City.

Representatives from Japan Tobacco Inc. and Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. witnessed the condemnation.

“Our standing order from Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero is to immediately dispose of seized goods to prevent port congestion, avoid pilferage and generate additional revenues for the government,” Acting District Collector Charlito Martin R. Mendoza,” Patriarca said.
