The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking to nullify Republic Act 6639 or the Act Renaming the Manila International Airport as Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

SC spokesman Brian Keith Hosaka on Tuesday said the Court En Banc has resolved to junk the petition filed by lawyer Larry Gadon seeking to declare as null and void RA 6639 for lack of merit.

“I was informed by Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta that the Supreme Court during their en banc session yesterday, 08 September 2020, unanimously denied for lack of merit the petition for the declaration of nullity of Republic Act No. 6339 (An Act Renaming the Manila International Airport as the Ninoy Aquino International Airport ),” Hosaka said in a text message to reporters.

In his petition, Gadon argued that the 33-year-old law was created only for the purpose of political name recall.

Gadon even described the law as the shortest law in the country, with only 44 words including the title.
