Ride-hailing service provider Angkas has entered into a partnership with the city government of Pasig to provide the city’s medical frontliners free rides and shields.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto received the shield donations from Angkas Chief Transport Advocate George Royeca in a brief ceremony Thursday at the Pasig City Hall.

“Mayor Vico has been very pro-active in anticipating and responding to the needs of his HCWs who have been courageously fighting at the forefront of this pandemic,” Royeca said.

“He has always championed efficient and safe transportation which we also advocate at Angkas. Angkas is proud to support him, and we would be more than happy to assist Pasig City in their pandemic-free transport initiatives,” he added.

Angkas is currently coordinating with Pasig City hospitals to ensure that Angkas bikers are deployed where they are most needed to be able to bring  home the HCWs safely back home.

The quick, safe and free ride saves these frontliners time and effort in looking for transport. Pasig City currently has 2,000 HCWs assigned to its hospitals, including the government-run Pasig City General Hospital and the Pasig City Children’s Hospital, which  is also a Covid Referral Facility.

Royeca also expressed his enthusiastic support for Sotto who has been steadily transforming his city into a health hub, while creating infrastructure and pathways for safe transport that can be used by a coronavirus-cautious public.

Royeca has previously acknowledged how LGUs are key to recovering lost ground from COVID-19. Angkas’ donation of shields and motorcycle taxi rides to Pasig City comes a few days after forming a similar partnership with Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso for the City of Manila.

Last week, Angkas also partnered with the National Task Force against COVID, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) and provided 1000 shields and arranged for 1000 bikers for HCWs.

Royeca affirmed Angkas’ long-term commitment to the safety of the frontliners, saying, “Tayo po ay nandito lang para makipag-partner sa ating mga LGU at mga kababayan. “

“We stand ready to help our HCWs who put their lives on the line to keep millions of us healthy and safe,” he added.
