Government agents have impounded seven container vans of smuggled cigarettes worth P186 million at the Manila International Container Port (MICP).

The shipments of 6,249 master cases of Two Moon, Mighty, Marvel, and D&B brands of cigarettes came from China. Based on documents, the shipments were misdeclared as "towels, school bags, bed sheets, non-woven bags and fabrics."

The seizure marked the biggest apprehension of smuggled cigarettes by MICP, which now has a total of P219.6 million in seizures.

The importers of these shipments will be charged with violation of Section 117 in relation to Section 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and other relative National Tobacco Administration (NTA) and Bureau of Internal revenue (BIR) rules and regulations.

A shipment of smuggled cigarettes worth P32.7 million was recently seized at the MICP under District Collector Romeo Allan Rosales, and officials of Intelligence Group and Customs Intelligence and and Investigation Service (CIIS).
