The Bureau of Customs seized three container vans of smuggled cigarettes worth more than P93 million at the Port of Subic, in Zambales.

Customs District collector Maritess Martin said the contraband was declared as LED lights but upon inspection of the shipment, customs authorities found thousands of boxes containing imported cigarettes.

The cigarettes, bearing various brands, reportedly came from China and concealed in 3,100 master cases.

Martin said that even during a global pandemic, the bureau is committed to working with other government agencies to stop smuggling in the country.

Customs commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said the agency will take all necessary measures to ensure that smuggling activities in all ports of the country will be stopped.
