Police on Wednesday arrested a 51-year-old security guard for taking hostage a doctor at the East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City.
Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, Quezon City Police District director, identified the suspect as Hilarion Achondo, a resident of 32 Milagrosa St., Project 8.
Achondo is now detained at Camp Karingal’s Criminal Intelligence and Detection Unit (CIDU).
At around 5:52 a.m. yesterday, Dr. Russel Carandang was treating the injuries sustained by Achondo due to a motorcycle accident when the latter suddenly grabbed a syringe and pointed it at the physician.
Reports said Carandang was also attending to some other patients when the incident took place.
The hostage-taking caught the attention of several CIDU operatives, who were also at the hospital’s emergency room investigating a stabbing incident.
After a few minutes of dialogue, Achondo released the doctor and threw the syringe away.
