The Bureau of Customs seized a shipment of smuggled fake cigarettes worth P76 million at the Port of Cebu.

Port of Cebu District Collector Atty. Charlito Martin Mendoza said that the seized shipment, contained in a 40 footer container van, was filled with fake Mighty and Marvels brand cigarettes.

The shipment was declared as an “oval dish” which came from China.

“During the 100% physical examination conducted by Customs Examiner Edy Neil D. Camalongay, together with representatives from the CIIS, Enforcement and Security Service, X-Ray Inspection Project, and the Philippine Coast Guard, the shipment was confirmed to contain 1,522 master cases of smuggled cigarettes,” Mendoza said.

Mendoza warned would-be-smugglers that the Bureau never waned with its anti-smuggling campaign and is, in fact, at a heightened alert during this pandemic.
