DOJ to probe Ragos case in June

The Department of Justice will start next month its preliminary investigation on the killing of retired Army Corporal Winston Ragos near a quarantine checkpoint in Quezon City last April.

This came after the Philippine National Police and the family of Ragos filed a homicide complaint against Police Master Sergeant Daniel Florendo Jr. before the DOJ.

“The case is now for DOJ preliminary investigation. Hearing set in mid-June,” said DOJ Secretary Guevarra said in a text message to reporters.

Commenting on allegations that the .38 caliber revolver found in the pouch of the 34-year-old Ragos was “planted,” Guevarra said: “All evidence will come out during the preliminary investigation. Let us just wait for it, in fairness to all parties involved.

Earlier, a video that went viral reportedly showed that last April 21, the police officer shot the retired Army Corporal twice in the body after the victim allegedly did not follow the orders of Florendo and four police trainees who were with him. Rey E. Requejo
