LTO gives drivers 60 days to renew licenses

The Land Transportation Office is giving drivers and vehicle owners 60 days upon the lifting of the enhanced community quarantine to renew their driver's license and motor vehicle registration, respectively, without any penalties.

In an radio interview, LTO chairman and Transportation Assistant Secretary Edgardo Galvante said the agency has waived all penalties for driver's licenses and vehicle registration that have expired within the quarantine period.

"However, I am appealing to them not to file their renewal on the last day so we could avoid mass gathering," he said.

"Many have asked me about those that have expired that are not within the lockdown, there would be (corresponding) penalties," he added.

While they have put in place foot bath and other precautionary measures once the LTO offices resume to regular work, he said they have to reduce the number of their employees.
