Up to 40,440 senior citizens in Antique will receive their social pension as the Department of Social Welfare and Development released the amount needed–P121,320,000 last week.

This was revealed by Deputy Speaker and Antique Rep. Loren Legarda, who said the release was done in line with the Special Guidelines on the Provision of Social Measures to the Affected Residents of the Areas Under Community Quarantine and Continuation of the Implementation of the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens and the Supplementary Feeding Programs.

Legarda, the principal author of the Republic Act 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2009, expressed hopes that the social pension will ease the burden of indigent senior citizens during the COVID-19 crisis and will augment their daily subsistence and other medical needs.

“It is our responsibility in the government to provide timely social assistance to our senior citizens in need, especially in this time of crisis,” Legarda said.
