COVID claims power bigwig Dr. Alan Ortiz

Power industry stakeholders have mourned the loss of Dr. Alan T. Ortiz, president of the Philippine Council for Foreign Relations, who passed away in Paris early morning on Monday while he was on a business delegation in France due to complications from the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Ortiz served as the president of the non-stock, non-profit and non-partisan corporation devoted to "studies and research, information and related activities" on "vital issues of foreign policy."

His profile with the PCFR stated that Ortiz is “an avid shooter, rescue diver, big biker, and amateur photographer.”

Ortiz was also the former president of SMC Global Power Corp. and former president of state-run National Transmission Corp.

“We mourn the loss of Alan Ortiz, and pray for his soul…We thank him for his contribution to the energy sector,” said Tetchi Capellan, chief executive officer of SunAsia Energy Inc.

Ortiz also also served the Philippine government as Assistant Director-General of the National Security Council, and vice-chairman and chief operating officer of the Development Bank of the Philippines, among others.

Ortiz obtained his AB Economics from the Ateneo de Manila University; his MA (cand.) in Economics from the University of the Philippines; and his Ph.D. in International Relations (With Distinction) from the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Multinational Enterprise and Economic Development at Penn’s Wharton School.

“Alan was a brilliant and articulate Filipino all around executive and public official, He is a loss to our people.” Art Aguilar, BioPower Group president said.
