Immigration officers intercepted eight overseas Filipino workers who tried to leave for Bangkok, Thailand, and Brunei at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

BI-Intelligence Division chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said the eight Filipino passengers, all-female, believe to be victims of a trafficking syndicate were intercepted on separate occasions at the NAIA 1 and NAIA 3

The four initially pretended to be tourists traveling together for a vacation at the NAIA 1.

However, it was found out that they were in possession of United Arab Emirates visas, and all eventually admitted to be bound for Dubai to work as household service workers.

“Upon interview, they alleged that their documents were processed by a fixer they only knew as Mark,” he said.

The other OFWs were intercepted at the NAIA Terminal 3 who attempted to fly to Brunei.

“System checks revealed that the overseas employment certificates [OECs] that they presented were falsified, and were found to belong to someone else,” he said.

All eight were referred to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking for assistance in filing criminal cases against their recruiters.

Meanwhile, BI agents arrested five Koreans and two Vietnamese who were caught working without a permit in a construction site in Clark Sharp Hills, Angeles City, Pampanga.

The aliens were caught in the act of working as laborers in a construction site in the area.

“We received reports that aliens were working in the site without the proper visas. We conducted a case buildup, and upon confirmation, the Commissioner issued a mission order to implement the arrest. Upon inspection, the seven were found to be undocumented, hence they were arrested and will be subjected to deportation proceedings,” he added.

The foreigners will be deported for violating the conditions of their stay by working without the appropriate permits, in violation of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940.

They are temporarily detained at the BI Detention Center in Bicutan, Taguig pending deportation proceedings.
