Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 but signs of a hazardous eruption persist, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The harmonic tremor lasted 3 minutes, Phivolcs said. Taal also recorded a 97-second harmonic tremor on Jan. 30, signs that magma continued to rise toward the surface of the volcano.

Taal Volcano has recorded a total of 182 volcanic earthquakes, including the three-minute harmonic tremor and one low-frequency event in the last 24 hours, Phivolcs said.

Since the volcano's eruption last month, Mayors in the National Capital Region continued to send relief assistance.

The local chief executives in cooperation with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and the Metro Manila Mayors Spouses Foundation Inc. brought the recent relief donations to the Municipality of Balayan in Batangas.

Truckloads of goods were distributed in Balayan West Central School used as an evacuation center for the affected families.

Included in the relief packs are food, water, hygiene kits, slippers, face masks, toys, and mats. There are also cooking utensils for the evacuation centers.

The relief assistance intensified after the Phivolcs lowered the alert status for Taal Volcano from Alert Level 4 to Level 3.

Immediately after the eruption last Jan. 12, the Metro Manila Council led by Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez and MMDA chairman Danilo Lim communicated with the Batangas Provincial Government to extend assistance augment in affected communities.

The MMC, composed of 17 mayors in the NCR, is the policy-making body and the governing board of the MMDA.

“We immediately took action and coordinated with the Batangas PDRRMO (Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office) to identify the areas where our help is urgently needed,” said Olivarez.

The assorted relief goods were mostly donated by the City Council of Paranaque and the city’s 16 barangays.

Olivarez also pledged a P250,000 cash donation to help fix the problem of septic management in the evacuation center. Presently, there are 385 evacuees temporarily residing in the center after the volcano eruption last January 12.

MMDA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management focal person Michael Salalima said the agency will continuously work with the Batangas provincial government in ensuring that the needs of affected families are always met.

“Our hands are always available for help for the Batangueños until we are sure, through the Philvolcs, that the Taal is free from imminent danger,” Salalima said.

Members of the Balayan City Council expressed its gratefulness to the MMDA, MMC, and MMMFSI for the relief efforts.

“We are very thankful for the donations given to our city. It will surely help out more than 20,000 evacuees in our city in their recovery after the eruption,” Balayan Mayor Emmanuel Salvador Fronda said.

Last week, the MMDA also turned over relief packs to local disaster risk reduction and management offices of Mataas na Kahoy and Lemery. The donations are coursed through the agency from various sectors and individuals.
