The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Thursday one fatality in Metro Manila due to the combined effects of Tropical Cyclone Bising and the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat.’
According to the NDRRMC, this information is still subject to validation.
Preliminary reports from Wednesday indicated that a one-year-old girl drowned after she was swept away by floodwaters during an evacuation in Las Piñas City. The child was later found along a riverbank in Barangay Talon 3.
Authorities said her father reportedly lost his grip on her while they were evacuating from Barangay Almanza Uno. She was brought to the hospital but later on passed away.
NDRRMC said a total of 103,274 individuals or 32,606 families were affected by the combined impact of ‘Bising’ and ‘habagat’ in the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and the National Capital Region.
Among the affected, 419 individuals or 104 families are currently staying in evacuation centers, while 3,026 individuals or 1,022 families have sought shelter in other locations.
Flooding remains in 35 areas, with two landslides and two incidents of falling debris also reported.
Sixteen houses sustained damage—12 partially and four totally. One road remains impassable to motorists.
Classes were suspended in 247 areas, and work was halted in 36 locations.
To date, the NDRRMC reported that a total of ₱6,957,926 worth of assistance has been provided to those affected.
