The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) field office in Western Visayas has received a new potable water truck from its Central Office, significantly boosting its disaster response capability, especially in areas affected by the recent ashfall from the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.
The water tanker is designed to transport large volumes of potable water and will be deployed to support internally displaced persons in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, which was among the hardest hit by volcanic ash emissions on April 15, 2025.
“This is a critical addition to our response logistics,” said the DSWD Western Visayas, emphasizing that access to clean water is one of the most pressing needs in evacuation centers. The tanker will help address temporary shortages and ensure safe water delivery to affected communities.
The water truck was officially delivered and inspected last Saturday, April 19, by the city government and other partner agencies.
The new tanker follows the recent deployment of a mobile kitchen unit to DSWD Western Visayas—part of a broader initiative to equip field offices with essential disaster-response tools.
These assets are expected to improve the agency’s ability to respond rapidly and efficiently to emergencies, ensuring that basic needs of disaster-stricken communities such as water and food are met, even in the most challenging conditions.
