P170m shabu recovered in Cebu port inspection

Authorities arrested a 63-year-old mother and his son for possession of 25 kilos of shabu worth P170 million in a routine seaport inspection in Cebu City on Thursday morning.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said the duo had travelled from Masbate to Cebu City by sea, and were on board a roll-on roll-off ship when its agency’s K9 inspection team, along with the police and Philippine Coast Guard, discovered the illegal drugs inside the suspects’ vehicle at Pier 4, Cebu City at around 7:30 a.m.

Authorities identified the suspects as a certain Edward, the 41-year-old car driver and his mother, a certain Edna, from Barangay Ermita in Cebu City.

Recovered during the inspection were one big brown carton box that contained the 25 kilos of shabu with an estimated average market value of P170 million, two identification cards, one unit os sedan car and three smart phones. Rio Araja

Chemists of the PDEA 7’s Regional Office Laboratory conducted an on-site screening test on the recovered substances, citing a positive result for the presence of shabu.

Meanwhile, PDEA at the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao seized P3.4 million worth of shabu from two suspected drug personalities, including a public servant, in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Poblacion, Marawi City last Jan. 22.

The arrested suspects were identified as one Alex, a provincial government employee of the security force, 42, from Lanao del Sur, and alias “Muning,” 33, from Marawi City.
