Local candidates in Maguindanao del Sur have signed a peace covenant and pledge of commitment sponsored by the Army’s 601st Infantry (Unifier) Brigade and the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division.
Representatives from the Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), along with other troop leaders stood as witness to the peace pact.
Among those who signed the covenant were Akmad Ampatuan Jr. and Alim Abdillah who are running for the mayoralty of Mamasapano town; Yacob Ampatuan and Maruja Mastura who are competing for the mayoral seat of Rajah Buayan, and Sukarno Badal, Nasser Dalgan, Mando Mamalo, and Dabialan Utap in the Sultan Sa Barongis mayoral race.
Other signatories included Abdulbasit Utap, Bhong Mangandili, Yasser Diakal, and Prince Al-Jofner Angas Sr. who are contesting the vice mayor post in Sultan Sa Barongis.
Sajid Andre Ampatuan, a candidate for mayor of Shariff Saydona Mustapha was represented by Omar Sissay in the signing ceremony.
Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete, commander of the 6th ID, called on other candidates in the May 2025 midterm elections to join upcoming peace covenants and political candidates forums organized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in collaboration with the military and the police.
This initiative aims to promote peaceful and safe elections in 2025. The public can expect more programs from the Joint Task Force Central, in partnership with the Philippine National Police and the Comelec to ensure orderly elections.
