The Department of Education (DepEd) reported on Friday that the estimated infrastructure damage caused by Super Typhoon Leon is now at P222.50 million.
This figure is separate from the estimated P2.67 billion in infrastructure damage attributed to Tropical Storm Kristine.
According to DepEd, there are a total of 64 classrooms that have been completely destroyed, requiring P160 million for reconstruction. Additionally, 125 classrooms have sustained partial damage and will need P62.50 million for major repairs.
As of 11:00 AM, recent data indicates that 10,947 schools have been affected by the typhoon across 48 divisions in six regions.
Region I has the highest number of affected schools, totaling 2,861, followed by Region III with 2,539 affected schools. The Cordillera Administrative Region ranks third with 1,844 affected schools.
Furthermore, a total of 3,970,22 learners and 181,270 teaching and non-teaching personnel have been impacted by Super Typhoon Leon. Currently, 13 schools are being used as evacuation centers, and six schools have reported secondary hazards, including flooding and landslides.
Latest data shows there have been no reported casualties or injuries among learners or personnel.
