The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through its Regional Office No. VII Bohol Field Office (BFO) simultaneously released a total of P4,689,300 worth of salaries to the workers of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) from the various towns of Bohol on March 27.
“The workers are overjoyed since this is the first time in Bohol that payout was made simultaneously to 13 LGUS. It is also the first time that their salaries are released within 2 weeks from the last day of work,” Bohol Field Office Chief Maria Eloida O. Cantona, said.
The 1,078 beneficiaries from 13 municipalities each received P4,350 for doing community works like road and street cleaning. They worked for 10 days and received a minimum wage of P435 per day. The TUPAD workers were also given cleaning kits and TUPAD uniforms.
OIC-Regional Director Lilia A. Estillore said that TUPAD workers are covered with a one-year group personal accident insurance which is shouldered by DOLE-7.
During the payouts, the workers received reference codes which they used in claiming their salaries at the DOLE-7’s partner remittance center.
The 13 local government units that were covered by the payout are President Carlos P Garcia, Ubay, Trinidad, Getafe, Buenavista, Dagohoy, San Miguel, Inabanga, Clarin, Bien Unido, Talibon, Danao and Sagbayan.
The town of Inabanga had the highest number of TUPAD beneficiaries at 116 workers.
Ubay, Getafe, and Talibon had the same number of beneficiaries at 100 workers each. On the other hand, Danao had 90 workers; Sagbayan with 82 workers; and each town of Trinidad and San Miguel had 80 workers.
Further, 72 workers came from Clarin while the towns of Buenavista and Dagohoy had 70 workers each. Sixty TUPAD workers hailed from Pres. CPG and Bien Unido had 58 workers.
“Dako kaayo among pasalamat sa DOLE. Maayo ni nga programa kay daku kaayo nga tabang sa mga kabus (We are grateful to DOLE. This program is really helpful to the poor),” said one of the TUPAD workers.
TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced, underemployed, and seasonal workers.
