Congress condoles with family of late Danny Javier

The House of Representatives on Wednesday adopted a resolution expressing condolences to the family of the late Daniel Javier, composer-singer of the renowned APO Hiking Society, who passed away last October 31 at 75.

House Resolution No. 530 was introduced by Speaker Martin Romualdez, Majority Leader Manuel Jose  Dalipe, Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, Senior Deputy Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, and TINGOG party-list Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre.

“Tributes poured in for this legendary music icon who never stopped fighting for what he loved, what he believed in, and what he was passionate about,” the resolution read.

“ … For his distinguished contribution to Philippine pop music, and for all his songs and compositions, Danny Javier will always be remembered with utmost respect and admiration, and his kind of music will leave a smile on the faces of many Filipinos,” it stated.

Danny Javier, as he was popularly known, was born on August 6, 1947 in Abuyog, Leyte.

He went to the San Beda College and the Ateneo de Manila University for his education, and he was part of the legendary musical trio, APO Hiking Society, together with Boboy Garovillo and Jim Paredes.

“Formed in 1969, the group was originally called the Apolinario Mabini Hiking Society before becoming popularly known as APO Hiking Society, or simply APO, and became one of the pillars of ‘Original Pilipino Music’ or OPM,” the resolution said.

“… The APO Hiking Society became involved in record production, talent management under the ‘Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit’ and expanded its activities into establishing the careers of new music artists …,“ the resolution said.

Throughout their 40-year career, the APO Hiking Society hosted television shows including “Sang Linggo nAPO Sila,” produced 27 best-selling albums, and recorded more than 40 hit songs, before they disbanded in 2010.

Javier was also a successful actor, host, and entrepreneur, and is father to four children.

“Resolved by the House of Representatives, to express its profound condolences to the family of Mr. Daniel ‘Danny’ Morales Javier, lead vocalist of the APO Hiking Society, a Filipino musical group and one of the pillars of Original Pilipino music (OPM),” it added.

A copy of the resolution will be given to the Javier family.
