30-minute Pasay fire leaves 80 families homeless

Some 80 families were left homeless while an estimated P150,000 worth of property were destroyed when a fire of still unknown origin struck a residential barangay Tuesday morning in Pasay City.

No one was reported injured based on the initial reports from the Pasay City Central Fire Station.

The fire reportedly started at the ground floor of the house occupied by a certain Amelia on 16 Airlane Road, Aeroville, Barangay 198, Pasay.

Arson investigator Arnel Cadaro said the fire which started around 11:07 a.m., reached the second alarm and was placed under control about 30 minutes later.

Eight fire trucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and 24 others from volunteer groups in Southern Metro responded to the incident.

Fire officials have not yet determined the cause of the blaze happened in the said compound, which is a stone throw away from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The BFP stated that most of the structural fires were due to faulty electrical wirings, unattended gas lamps, exploding cooking stoves, and overheating appliances.

The bureau also warned against using illegal power connections and improper use of outlets and extensions.
