The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor under its new leadership vows to continue initiating activities toward poverty alleviation and service to the marginalized sector through its programs of urban poor empowerment and leadership development.

It recently conducted basic orientation and leadership seminars for residents of Barangays Pasong Tamo and Fairview in Quezon City who would be affected by the national government’s ongoing NLEX-SLEX connector project of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

In Barangay Pasong Tamo, Field Operations Division-National Capital Region assistant chief Dennis Protasio and NCR area coordinator Ed Labaco led the basic leadership capability seminar to selected officials and members of the United Luzon Avenue Federation.

The new administration under chairperson Elpidio Jordan Jr. expressed its drive to lower the incidence of poverty, if not eliminate it,  via sound economic reforms and empowerment of the citizenry, especially the urban poor.

PCUP was created through Executive Order No. 82 on Dec. 8, 1986, to serve as a conduit to interconnect the urban poor with the government in the process of formulating and implementing policies that would effectively address the needs of the country’s poor.
