Maj. JanMichael Guillermo, a veteran Filipino-American combat helicopter pilot who saw action during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, has retired after 20 years of active service in the US Army.

Brig. Gen. Rob Barrie, program executive for aviation, presented a Recognition of Award to Maj. Guillermo for his two decades in the US Army.

The younger Guillermo, an Apache helicopter pilot, saw action in Iraq and Afghanistan until the US pulled out from those countries.

He supervised the final air operations of bringing out US assets and the evacuation of Americans from Kabul as the Taliban took over the administration of Afghanistan.
