BI detains unruly Briton

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has taken custody of a British national arrested earlier by the police for alleged unruly behavior and violation of the gun ban while in a joint in Makati City.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the suspect as Darren Mark Wall, an ex-boxer, who sported a Union Jack tattoo on his neck.

Morente said Wall was turned over to the BI by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. The Briton was reportedly arrested last March for punching and pointing a gun at another man in a nightclub in Poblacion, Makati City.

Wall allegedly violated the gun ban, disobeyed persons of authority, possessed dangerous drugs, and threatened several individuals.  It was also reported that Wall had a criminal record in the United Kingdom, after he and two other cohorts were said to have robbed an automatic telling machine (ATM).

BI records show that Wall was a holder of a permanent resident visa, and married to a Filipina.

According to BI Intelligence Division chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr., Wall may be deported despite his permanent residency in the country.  Manahan said that his office has already recommended that Wall be charged as an undesirable alien.

Wall was said to have led a gang, employing several henchmen in extortion activities and drug-related crimes in UK.

Morente meanwhile reminded foreign nationals to obey the law during their stay in the country.

“A permanent residence visa is not a free pass for foreign nationals to disregard our laws,” Morente said.

“They are still expected to be in their best behavior, and to comply with the laws of the land.  Otherwise, they may be arrested, deported, and banned from returning to the Philippines.”
