The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will not enforce today the number coding scheme for the commemoration of the 36th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

“The MMDA suspended the Modified Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (MUVVRP) or the number coding scheme from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the 36th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, Feb. 25 Friday, a special non-working holiday,” the agency stated in its advisory Thursday.

This means vehicles with plate numbers ending in 9 and 0 will be allowed to travel on major thoroughfares in Metro Manila during coding hours from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The MMDA started implementing the afternoon number coding scheme late last year covering private cars only.

Exempted from the policy are public utility vehicles (PUVs), Transportation Network Vehicle Services (TNVS), motorcycles, garbage trucks, fuel trucks, motor vehicles carrying essential and perishable goods.

The MMDA suspended the number coding scheme early in 2021 when the government imposed a community quarantine in Metro Manila amid the coronavirus disease pandemic.

The agency’s number coding system was devised to keep vehicles out of major thoroughfares on certain days based on the last digit of the license plate.

The system corresponds to 1 and 2 for Monday, 3 and 4 for Tuesday, 5 and 6 for Wednesday, 7 and 8 for Thursday, and 9 and 0 for Friday.
