1.25M households still without power

Some 1.287 million households from 91 municipalities affected by typhoon “Odette” are still without power as of January 2, according to National Electrification Administration (NEA).

NEA in its latest monitoring said it has fully restored power to 2.451 million households from 712 municipalities while power in 134 municipalities has been partially restored. Estimated damage from affected electric cooperatives rose to P2.2 billion from an earlier estimate of P2 billion.

The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines also reported that it has fully restored the affected transmission lines in Panay, Mindanao, and Negros islands.

Rino Abad, director for the Oil Industry Management Bureau said that has been significant improvement in the delivery of petroleum in areas affected by the typhoon as more and more RORO facilities and vessels become operational.

In Dinagat Island, Abad said 12 of the 16 gasoline stations have resumed operations.

The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) meanwhile has sent out its teams of engineers and other experts to come to the aid of residents who were badly hit by the typhoon.

LWUA Administrator Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong said six teams had been scrambled and fielded out to 181 water districts that bore the brunt of the year’s strongest cyclone.

The government has allocated at least P27 billion pesos in the 2022 national budget for assistance to disaster victims.

Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez, said government assistance has yet to be felt by disaster victims in various areas in the country.

Rodriguez pointed out that there is a P7-billion contingent or contingency fund in the 2022 budget that the government can use to help Odette victims.

The provincial government of Bohol meanwhile will distribute generator sets to water refilling stations in various towns where residents have only been relying on relief assistance for their potable water and food.

The latest donations intended for the victims of the typhoon in Bohol as it made landfall in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.

The NGCP has completed energizing the Ubay, Alicia, Garcia Hernandez corridors with 69-kilovolts lines on Dec. 30 and 31.

However, the Power Barge 104 shut down its operation due to lack of load on the same days that the NGCP finished its transmission of power in these towns, causing the three power distributors – Bohol Electric Cooperatives 1 and 2 and Bohol Light – to stop their distribution.

He called on the three power distribution firms to get ready in case the generation plant starts to make a partial supply of electricity to its consumers.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported a total of 109 deaths, five missing, and 2,040 injured, as of Monday, 18 days after the typhoon. The province listed a total of 26,590 families evacuated, comprising 61,997 individuals. With Maricel V. Cruz
