Chairman Danilo Lim of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Saturday commended a young motorcyclist and MMDA emergency response trainee who did not think twice in helping a fellow rider who figured in an accident.

Jerome Juanico, 22, member of the MMDA-Metro Manila Emergency Volunteers Corps for three years, said he was on his way home when he heard over the radio that a motorcycle rider got injured in a collision that happened at EDSA-Oliveros area in Quezon City at 3 p.m. last Thursday.

Being a rider himself, Juanico said he was aware that motorcycle riders are most vulnerable to injuries, which prompted him to offer his help.

With a first aid kit in his motorcycle, Juanico drove all the way from Cubao to the accident area.

“One important lesson I had learned from my training is to carry a first aid kit at all times in case any road emergency happens,” said Juanico.

Juanico was able to help the injured motorcyclist by cleaning his lacerated wound and calming him after he experienced difficulty of breathing while waiting for the MMDA Road Emergency Group.

“I am proud to be a member of MMEVC. I am also thankful that I was able to apply what I learned from the training offered by the MMDA to help someone in need. This is exactly the reason why I signed up to be a volunteer, so I could assist others,” said Juanico.

Juanico had completed the Earthquake, Landslide Search and Rescue Operations course and the Basic Life Support course conducted by MMEVC.

Lim praised Juanico for rendering assistance to the injured motorcyclist.

“My sincere salute to Juanico for being a good Samaritan. I hope this inspires more people to sign up to be our volunteer and help others in need,” said Lim.
