Party-list vows probe on punching incident

The Ang Probinsyano Party-list on Thursday vowed to investigate the alleged punching incident involving its first nominee, Alfred delos Santos, at a diner in Legazpi City.

At the same time, the group’s spokesman, lawyer Joco Sabio, said the party-list group would not tolerate any abuse of authority even among its nominees.

According to reports, Delos Santos allegedly punched a service crew identified as Christian Kent Alejo, 20 while he and his friends were dining.

“Definitely we will not tolerate any kind of abuse in our party. Will not hesitate to suspend or even remove Congressman Delos Santos if we establish that this was an unprovoked attack,” Sabio said.

“Just like everyone else, the party is concerned and really disappointed with what happened. We are not taking this sitting down and we are taking all the necessary steps to that this will not happen again in the future,” Sabio added.

Sabio said the party-list group is now conducting its own probe on what really took place at the Biggs Diner in Legazpi City last July 7.

Sabio noted, however, that Delos Santos still deserved to be given the chance to explain himself so that the party could fairly decide on what course of action it would take.

“Despite all the flak that our party is getting because of this incident, we will still accord Rep. Delos Santos the right to due process,” Sabio said.

“I would like to make it very clear, however, that Rep. Delos Santos is our nominee but he is not the entire representation of the Ang Probinsyano Party-list. His actions and his decisions are his own and should not reflect on Ang Probinsyano as a party and as an organization,” Sabio said.
