Operators and drivers of the transport network vehicle services on Thursday appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte to heed their call and to grant an amnesty for 5,000 deactivated accounts.
At a news conference in Quezon City, Saturnino Mopas, a leader of the TNVS Community Philippines, called on the President as well as Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade to step into the matter and address their plea to allow them to apply for certificate of public convenience and provisional authority with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
He said they had sent a formal communication to the Department of Transportation and Malacañang seeking a dialogue.
“What we are asking [for] is an amnesty for those accounts that have been deactivated. And most importantly, we seek a uniform and systematic (sic) processing of the renewal of our provisional authority and certificate of public convenience without any discrimination on TNVS,” the group’s letter read.
On June 10, the mobile-app based Grab Philippines deactivated 5,000 of TNVS—an umbrella group of transport network services providers—for failure to submit proof of their provisional authority and certificate of public convenience issued by the LTFRB.
Also on that day, the LTFRB opened to all transport network companies at least 10,000 slots to respond to the needs of ride-hailing service customers.
Mopas reiterated their appeal for an amnesty, saying the LTFRB imposed other requirements, making it hard for them to comply with.
