The widow of slain former La Union Rep. Eufranio Eriguel filed her certificate of candidacy to officially signify her bid for Congress reelection.
Sandra Eriguel, who was elected as La Union 2nd District representative in 2016, is seeking a second term.
“Together with the friends and supporters of Franny, we, the people of La Union would like to put an end to political violence and continue the legacy and good achievements of my husband,” Eriguel said.
“Franny is well loved and respected by his constituents because of his leadership and good governance,” she said. “It is just fitting that we continue his dreams and ideals.”
Her husband was brutally murdered along with three supporters on May 12 in what was described to be a politically-motivated killing.
The late Eriguel served three terms as mayor of Agoo and two terms as congressman of La Union’s second district.
Eriguel and his three companions were attacked by armed assailants during a political rally for village officers in Barangay Capas in Agoo town.
He sustained eight gunshot wounds on his head, chest, arm, and leg during the incident.
