Mayor Abigail Binay on Saturday commended the Makati City Police Department for the arrest of 302 individuals in simultaneous anti-criminality and law enforcement operations over the past weekend.

SACLEO is an all-out police operation simultaneously conducted in identified areas against illegal drug personalities, most wanted persons, bearers of loose firearms, illegal gamblers, and city ordinance violators.

“The city government and all Makatizens are deeply grateful for your untiring dedication to maintain peace and order on our streets and communities at all hours, rain or shine,” said Binay.

The city chief executive noted that as increased police visibility has made residents feel safer, the day and night operations of the city police force have also resulted in the apprehension of law offenders and wanted suspects.

In a report to the Office of the Mayor, Makati Police chief Senior Supt. Rogelio Simon said  that from Sept. 21 to 22 alone, Makati cops arrested 26 crime suspects and 87 ordinance violators.

The suspects nabbed include nine individuals with outstanding warrants of arrest, four caught violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, and eight for violating the Anti-Illegal Gambling Act.

Individuals caught violating city ordinances during the two-day period included 51 for smoking in public, six for drinking in public places, and 30 minors violating the city-imposed curfew.

Meanwhile, a total of 189 traffic violators were also apprehended in its Oplan Sita and Oplan Bulabog operations.

Recently, the National Capital Region Police Office praised the city police for topping the ongoing drive against violators of local ordinances, citing 3,878 offenders recorded from June 13 to Aug. 31 this year.

The city police department was also awarded the Medalya ng Kagalingan last Aug. 20 at Camp Crame in recognition of its exemplary peacekeeping efforts in the city.

In the past four months, from May 10 to Sept. 10, the Makati police reported the arrest of 348 illegal drugs personalities; 349 gamblers; and 180 wanted persons.

Meanwhile, 218 suspects were arrested for Index Crimes such as murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and motorcycle theft.

During the said period, the police also rescued 2,136 minors for violating curfew hours and apprehended 175 for drinking in public streets and places; 22 for being shirtless in public places; 1,774 for violating the smoking ban; and 124 for violating other local ordinances, such as urinating in public places.

Mayor Binay earlier directed the police to crack down on violators of city ordinances to instil discipline and order as well as prevent the commission of more serious crimes.

“We must not tolerate the proliferation of petty offenses as these can breed major crimes, including illegal drug activities,” she said.

Last August, Binay received three awards in a row from the protective sector. These were Medalya ng Pambihirang Paglilingkod—Degree of

Lakan Award by the Bureau of Fire Protection, Outstanding Local Chief Executive for 2018 Award by the NCRPO, and Local Chief Executive Award by the BFP–NCR.
