‘You’re no sacred cow,’ Calida told

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Friday reminded Solicitor General Jose Calida that he is not a “sacred cow” following his appeal before the Supreme Court to stop the Senate from investigating the almost P50-million government contracts bagged by his family’s security agency.

The Senate Blue Ribbon committee, chaired by Senator Richard Gordon, was supposed to start on Thursday, April 16, its investigation, but it was postponed for still unknown reason.

The probe on the conflict of interest of Calida stemmed from the multimillion-peso security service contracts between national government agencies and the Vigilant Investigative and Security Agency Inc. owned by his family.

Documents showed that VISAI owned by Calida’s wife Milagros signed contracts with at least three government agencies months after his appointment as the government’s chief lawyer in 2016.

VISAI got two contracts worth nearly P40 million with the National Parks Development Committee, a P2.8 million contract with the National Anti-Poverty Commission, and a P6.8 million contract with the National Economic and Development Authority from 2016 to 2018.
