Party-list solons richest, poorest in House

The richest and poorest members of the House of Representatives both came from party-list groups that are supposed to represent marginalized sectors.

A summary of the House members’ Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth showed 1-Pacman Rep. Michael Romero remained the richest member with a net worth of P7.291 billion for 2017, higher than his P7 billion net worth in 2016.

Romero has P7.328 billion in assets and P37 million in liabilities. He is richer than the two billionaires in the Senate—Senator Cynthia Villar who has a P3.6 billion net worth and Senator Manny Pacquiao Jr. who has a P2.9 billion net worth.

Kabataan Rep. Sarah Elago is the poorest House member with a net worth of only P75,800.

Camarines Sur Rep. Gabriel Bordado is the poorest district representative with net worth of only P564,000. His assets stood at P3.664 million while liabilities reached P3.1 million.

Negros Occidental Rep. Albee Benitez, the House committee on housing and urban development chairman, was the richest district representative with a P1.004 billion net worth.

Diwa Party-list Rep. Emmeline Aglipay-Villar is the second richest House member with a P1.4 billion net worth.

Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos came in fourth richest with a P920.8 million net worth, followed by Quezon City Rep. Feliciano Belmonte Jr. with P861.037 million, Manila Teachers Rep. Virgilio Lacson with P791.6 million, Marikina City Rep. Bayani Fernando with P739 million, Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto with P538.8 million and Davao del Norte Rep. Antonio Floirendo with P523.7 million.

Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez has declared a P91.6 million net worth, while House Majority Floor Leader and Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas has a P169.98 million net worth.
