The Metro Manila Development Authority will impose a one-truck lane policy along Circumferential Road-2 to improve the flow of traffic and lessen truck-related accidents in the area.

MMDA general manager Jose Arturo Garca said trucks traversing C-2 Road would only be allowed on one lane from Andalucia to Nagtahan Road and vice versa in the City of Manila.

“This is aimed at preventing accidents and address heavy traffic caused by trucks along the thoroughfare,” said Garcia.

Based on the 2017 Metro Manila Accident Recording and Analysis System, at least 155 damage to property incidents and eight injuries involving trucks and trailers were reported in the area.

Under the policy, cargo trucks with a gross weight of more than 4,500 kilos will only be allowed to use the C-2 Road’s third lane from the sidewalk except at Nagtahan, which is the second lane from the median or center island.

At least 6,939 trucks and trailer trucks plying along the road based on the MMDA’s annual daily traffic last year.

The average number of existing lanes is four lanes per direction.

Last Thursday, the Metro Manila Council gave its go-ahead for the enforcement of the measure.

The MMC is the governing board and policy-making body of the agency.

One-truck lane policy is also being implemented along Circumferential Road 5 (C-5 Road), Katipunan Avenue, Congressional Road, Mindanao Avenue and Roxas Boulevard.

Truck drivers who fail to observe the one-truck lane policy shall be apprehended and fined P2,000, which is the corresponding penalty to truck ban violation.
