President Rodrigo Duterte has declared a unilateral ceasefire with the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People's Army/National Democratic Front (CPP/NPA/NDF).
This was announced by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
Roque said the ceasefire will take effect on December 24, 2017.
It will last until January 2, 2018.
Malacañang hopes the communist rebels will also declare a ceasefire.

The announcement for the suspension of military operations against the communist rebels has been a tradition being practised by the Executive Branch every Christmas season.
