Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary Tonisito Umali emphasizes the need for schools to hold make-up classes.
This is so that schools can complete the number of days for study in a given school year.
DepEd has placed at 195 the number of school days for academic year 2017-2018.
He noted due to the week-long break for students in Metro Manila in view of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) Summit, make-up classes have become necessary.
But Umali is leaving it up to schools to implement the adjustments in schedule.

He said schools may hold classes on Saturdays.
He also suggested schools that have single-shift classes may choose to extend the number of class hours in a day.
