The expanded coverage of the 20 percent fare discount for students takes effect beginning today.
This means that students can avail of the 20% fare discount even on weekends, holidays and school breaks.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) made the decision.
The board is acting on the complaints and requests by students on social media.
The fare discount used to be effective only from Monday to Friday.

While the minimum jeepney fare is P 8.00, the minimum amount students will pay is P 6.40 on any day of the week.
The LTFRB's order covers all public modes of transportation, including the app-based units of Transport Network Companies (TNCs).
