MMDA to train mall guards on traffic work

Mall operators in Metro Manila agreed to the proposal of the government to place their security personnel under training and be deputized to manage traffic along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, particularly in the areas near shopping centers.

Officials of the Metro Manila Development Authority on Friday met representatives of shopping malls and commercial establishments at the agency’s main office in Makati City where they discussed and finalized the plan to lessen the traffic problem during the Yuletide season.

MMDA assistant general manager for planning Jose Arturo Garcia said the mall owners will start sending to the MMDA the list of security guards who will be deputized and help the agency in managing traffic.

“We want to clear first that this is not a policy. We’re just asking them (mall operators) to consider our proposals,” said Garcia.
