University of the Philippines (UP) Student Carl Angelo Arnaiz was tortured before he was killed.

This was the testimony of Public Attorney's Office (PAO) Forensic Consultant Dr. Erwin Erfe during the hearing of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs on Tuesday.

Erfe said the autopsy report revealed Arnaiz sustained five gunshot wounds (three of these were on his chest), handcuff marks, abrasions on his back and legs indicating he was dragged and that he had swollen eyes.

Erfe testified, "mukhang nakaluhod po sya nang siya ay binaril, dalawa hanggang tatlong beses. At nang nakahiga na, may dalawa pang putok sa dibdib na tumama (it seems he was kneeling when he was shot 2 to 3 times. When he was already lying down, two more shots were fired upon, hitting his chest)."

Erfe's testimony contradicted the police report that said Arnaiz had staged a robbery-holdup against taxi driver Tomas Bagcal along C-3 Road along Caloocan City on August 18, 2017.

PNP had claimed Arnaiz was killed when he supposedly resisted arrest by Police Officers 1 Jeffrey Perez and Ricky Arquilita.

In the same Senate hearing, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory claimed Arnaiz tested positive for gunpowder nitrates.

The finding was based on the paraffin test conducted on Arnaiz's hands.

This could supposedly indicate that the student had fired a gun.
