PNoy aide slams Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte’s tirade against his predecessor, ex-President Benigno Aquino III, was simply a reflection of his boorish behavior, a former presidential spokesperson said on Thursday.

“To call PNoy g*** is not a reflection on PNoy's argument. It is a reflection of your uncouthness. Cursing never elevates public discourse,” Edwin Lacierda, a former presidential spokesperson for Aquino, said in a tweet.

Lacierda also said that Duterte never had a “memorable speech” because of his habitual off-script statements.

“You pride yourself in delivering impromptu speeches which PNoy has done on a number of events. No wonder none of your speeches are memorable,” he said.

On Wednesday, Duterte lashed out against Aquino who had questioned the effectiveness of his war on drugs which he the former president said has yet to produce results.

“Sabi ni PNoy, parang walang nangyari. Sige, pumasok ka sa droga PNoy, ‘pag hindi kita pinutulan ng ulo, buang ka. Anong walang nangyari? G*** ka,” the President said in his speech at the 113th founding anniversary of the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

He added that many of top officials during Aquino's term, such as General Vicente Loot had links to the illegal drug trade.

“Mga generals mo, ‘yang aide mo, ‘yung aide ni Roxas puro nasa droga, konektado. Number one diyan ‘yung bata ninyo si General Loot, isa pa ‘yang u*** na ‘yan,” he added.

In a chance interview, Duterte scored Aquino for criticizing his anti-drug campaign, when he has done nothing to curb the drug menace during his term.

“Kasi sabi niya walang nangyari sa campaign. Tingnan naman niya. In all of his six years, he was only able to seize 3,045 kilos of shabu. Akin one year palang, I am nearing 3,000 [kilos],” the President said.

“Alam naman ng tao [kung anong nangyayari] nung panahon niya,” he added.

Aside from Lacierda,  allies of the former president in the Senate also came to his defense.

Senator and Liberal Party president Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan said President Rodrigo Duterte didn’t have to curse nor insult him Aquino if the former president was not supportive of his method in fighting the illegal drug.

Pangilinan said that addressing drug problem in the country should be treated as a health issue with the corresponding rehabilitation programs for those afflicted and not simply viewed as a law enforcement problem.

Senator Grace Poe, on the other hand, reminded the president to watch his language. Saying that children might imitate him.

“That has been his style. But as a public figure heard by many, he may be imitated by kids. Do we agree with that?" said Poe who was MTRCB chairman in Aquino’s administraton before running for senator in 2013.

"I know he knows what’s right and wrong, so I just want to remind him, SPG," Poe said.

SPG means to Strong Parental Guidance, which the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) gives as  classification for programs with themes of violence, drugs, swear words, sex and horror..

"Added to this, no need to curse and insult others if we don’t agree with what they’re saying," Poe said.

Since Duterte waged war against illegal drugs, over 10,000 individuals have died both in police operations and in vigilante killings.
