Bad weather cancels six local flights

Six domestic flights have been canceled at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport due to bad weather condition, officials of the Manila International Airport Authority said on Wednesday.

In an advisory, the MIAA -Media Affairs Division said four flights of Cebu Pacific Air and two others from Philippine Airlines – PAL Express were canceled on Wednesday due to heavy rains brought by the   southwest monsoon in the region.

Those canceled were Cebu Pacific flights 5J-647 and 5J-648 to and from Puerto Princesa; 5J-325 and 5J-326 to and from Legaspi, and PAL Express flights 2P-2815 and 2P-2816 to and from Davao.

The management of the airlines apologized to the affected passengers who they offered options to rebook their flights within 30 days from original departure date, or for full refund of travel fare.

Meanwhile, the Metro Manila Development Authority also suspended the operation of its Pasig River Ferry System from Lawton station in Manila to Pinagbuhatan station in Pasig City  due to severe rains.

“Due to heavy rains, visibility and river current is unpredictable. As such, the operations of the Pasig River Ferry System is suspended today until further notice, for the safety of passengers and boat crew.

Please be guided accordingly. Thank you,” the MMDA stated in its Wednesday advisory.

Classes in all levels in cities of Muntinlupa and Las Piñas, and in the provinces of Laguna, Cavite and Rizal were also suspended on Wednesday.

The provincial government of Cavite suspended classes from pre-school to high school while the municipal government of Imus declared no classes in all levels on both private and public schools.

In Laguna, Governor Ramil Hernandez declared the suspension of classes in all levels on both private and public schools around 11 am.

In Rizal, local governments in the towns and city of Antipolo, Angono, Baras, and Tanay declared no classes from pre-school to senior high school while all levels on both public and private schools were suspended in Cainta, Morong, Cardona, Taytay and Teresa.

Classes and work in the De la Salle University in Laguna Campus have also been suspended in the afternoon.

The Weather bureau said that Metro Manila and the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera,

Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol, Eastern and Central Visayas, Caraga and Zamboanga peninsula will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms.

 The southwest monsoon is being enhanced by Typhoon “Noru” which is hovering northeast of the country outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
