The Bureau of Customs suspended the accreditation of an importer and Customs broker linked to the shipment of 605 kilos of shabu worth P6 billion in two warehouses in Valenzuela City, the biggest illegal drug haul this year.

The bureau has also filed illegal drug charges against Eirene Mae Agustino, proprietor of EMT Trading and Teejay A. Marcellana, a  licensed Customs broker.

Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon said the suspension came amid the ongoing investigation of the BOC Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service on its recent seizure of shabu with an estimated street value of P6.4 billion.

The  recent drug bust brought to more than P7.6 billion worth of illegal drugs confiscated by the joint operations of the BoC, Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency and the National Bureau of Investigation since  President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office in June last year.

He said several persons, some of them foreigners, were arrested during  operations from July 2016 to May 2017, bringing the total seizure to 795 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu from several ports to warehouses across the country.

The latest Anti-Illegal Drugs Accomplishment Report released by the BoC showed that the biggest catch came on May 26, 2017 where authorities seized two  warehouses in  Paso de Blas and F. Bautista Street in Ugong, both in Valenzuela City, respectively and  discovered 605 kilos of high grade shabu with an estimated street value of P6.4 billion.

The report said that in 2016, joint operatives from the Anti-Illegal Drugs Group of the Philippine National Police and the CIIS recovered 187 kilos of shabu found in a shipment that landed in Claveria, Cagayan.

A total of 180 plastic packs of suspected shabu hidden in seven black bags with markings “Leah D” and hidden inside a big blue ice box with an estimated worth P900 million were found. The government also intercepted a Chinese fishing vessel and arrested four Chinese crew after several kilos of shabu were found in the ship docked at Subic Bay in Zambales.

Seized from the vessel was a self-sealing plastic pack containing a crystalline substance believed to be shabu hidden inside a travelling bag in the lower cabin, and a hydrogenator used in the manufacture of shabu.
