Reports from local offices of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Quezon City and Metro Manila indicate that taxpayers are generally able to smoothly and quickly file their Income Tax Returns (ITRs) on Monday.

This is the last day for the filing of the document.

The deadline was reset by the BIR to April 17 from April 15, which fell on Black Saturday.

Several taxpayers say, it only took them about 5 minutes to submit their ITRs as the lines of people at the counters were short.

Some filers were given free drinks and refreshments.

BIR offices will be open until 5 pm today.

BIR Commissioner Cesar Dulay warns, late filers will pay a fine of 20 percent interest per annum and a 25 percent surcharge.
