Maynilad: 43-hour water interruption in QC

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. on Thursday announced a 43-hour water service interruption in 15 barangays in Quezon City next week to affect 300,000 customers and their families.

To be affected by the prolonged supply interruptions are barangays Apolonio Samson, Baesa, Bahay Toro, Bungad, Damayan, Del Monte, Katipunan, Mariblo, Paltok, Paraiso, San Antonio, Sangandaan, Talipapa, Tandang Sora and Veterans Village.

The two-day water interruption will give way to the replacement of a defective valve along Maynilad’s 1,200 mm-diameter primary line along Tandang Sora Avenue in Talipapa to ensure the reliability of its distribution system.

The repair works will begin on December 5, a Monday, at 8 p.m. and end on December 7 at 4 p.m, the company said.

The water concessionaire will take about 43 hours to stop water flow through the four-foot-tall primary line, insert a line stopper to isolate the valve that will be replaced, and install the new valve before allowing the water to flow again through the primary line, the company said.

“Valves are necessary for managing the flow and pressure of water inside our pipelines. Hence, it is essential that we have this defective valve replaced immediately to prevent any problems from occurring in the future,” said supply operations engineer Ronaldo Padua, Maynilad’s Water Supply Operations head.

Padua advised customers to store enough water for the duration of the interruption.

To minimize the inconvenience brought on by the valve replacement activity, Maynilad will have 14 water tankers on standby to the serve areas with interrupted supply.  Customers may call Maynilad’s water tankering hotline 737-3311 to ask for a water tanker delivery.
