The local government of Muntinlupa has intensified its information campaign on families living in the areas transected by the West Valley Fault identified by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi ordered his disaster risk management council and social services department to launch a disaster preparedness and West Valley Fault briefing for parents program last October 18 at the Muntinlupa Resiliency Building, Tunasan.

Fresnedi said he aimed to familiarize parents with risk reduction plan in anticipation of calamities, specifically a 7.2-magnitude earthquake expected to originate in the local fault line.

The IEC campaign will be conducted in the following areas: Muntinlupa Resiliency Center, Tunasan on October 18-21; Southville III, Poblacion on October 25; Dioko Pavillion, Cupang from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

The West Valley Fault cuts across eight out of nine barangays in Muntinlupa, namely Sucat, Buli, Cupang, Alabang, Bayanan, Putatan, Poblacion and Tunasan.

The city promotes disaster resiliency by giving capacity training of personnel and constituents to protect the city from natural and man-made hazards by strict enforcement of safety measures.

The local government also encourages green building that can withstand calamities and disasters.

The Muntinlupa Resiliency Building, which houses a centralized surveillance and emergency response system for operations during disasters, crime prevention, and traffic monitoring, is one such development.
