Caloocan has responsible pet owners

The Caloocan City government has passed an ordinance that metes fines to irresponsible dog and cat owners.

City Ordinance 10-017 authored by Councilor Aurora Henson Jr. obliges pet owners to keep their pets on a leash and clean their waste.

“A lot of complaints have been lodged in barangay halls due to irresponsible pet ownership,” Henson said.

Offenders will be fine P500 for the first offense; P1,000, for the second and P2,000 for the third.

Pet owners are also required to have their pets vaccinated.

The ordinance will be implemented by the   City Health Department in coordination with the City Rabies Control Coordinating Committee.

The councils of the 188 barangays in the city are also directed to monitor domesticated animals with the Department of Public Safety and Traffic Management and authorized personnel of the City Engineering Office.

City Ordinance 039 s. 2005 direct pet owners to register their dog or cats with the City Veterinarian Office.
